Most carpet cleaners will run a rug through the same process as wall to wall carpet. DanCare treats a Navajo weaving, a Persian rug or a silk piece as its own kind of job, with its own vocabulary of care: cleaning, but also edge surging and binding, fringe replacement and hole reweaving, stain and moth repellent, water and mildew solutions, custom rug pads, and rug appraisals and evaluations. In a city where a handmade rug can be the most valuable thing in the house, that is not a line item, it is a separate discipline that happens to be run out of the same shop as the carpet work.

Cleaning a rug and restoring one are not the same job.

- A protective treatment applied after cleaning, before the rug goes back down.
- Edge surging and binding
- The finished edge of a rug, restitched where it has come loose or worn through.
- Fringe replacement and hole reweaving
- Fringe that has frayed away, and holes rewoven back into the field of the rug itself.
- Stain and moth repellent
- Treatments applied against future staining and against moths, not just the last spill.
- Pet stain and pet odor removal
- The same pet-related work DanCare does on carpet, applied to a handmade rug instead.
- Water and mildew solutions
- For a rug that has taken on water damage or mildew.
- Custom rug pads
- A pad cut to the rug, so the fibers underneath are not resting straight on the floor.
- Rug appraisals and evaluations
- An evaluation of the rug itself, separate from cleaning it.
